Slipware dishes and plates were actively made in Northeast and Midwest England, North Wales etc. during 17th-19th centuries. Those made in Staffordshire were introduced into Japan by Soetsu (Muneyoshi) Yanagi in the early 20th century and are known as 'Pie Dishes' today.

Productions of slipware dishes/plates were almost ceased by early 20th century but it revived dramatically towards the end of the same century with great contributions by today's eminent potters such as Clive Bowen and Geoff Fuller. The Great Slipware Show for 2018 mainly showcases dishes/plates by five British slipware potters. Work by Geoff Fuller is the first appearance in Japan.
