It has been over 90 years since Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada moved to the UK and established the world-famous Leach Pottery in St. Ives, a port town of Cornwall in West England in 1920. Since then, a number of studio potters have emerged in the two countries, who have been influence by the two great potters.

Gallery St. Ives, which started in Tokyo in 2000, is specialised in modern and contemporary British and Japanese studio pottery. We have selected work brought up mainly with the Leach and Hamada tradition and the Mingei movement, and are introducing work including Bernard Leach, Lucie Rie and Hamada through our outlet in Tokyo, Japan and this website.

We are happy to exchange information about the studio pottery with pottery minded people in the world. Also please feel free to visit our gallery in Tokyo!!
